Painted Hills
The Painted Hills Unit of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument is a marvelous example of Oregon’s unique volcanic geology. Colorful strata were laid down in a variety of environments, giving them their color. Then, water and wind eroded the beds into soft shapes that reveal the treasure beneath.
